Discrimination Against Veterans and Military Servicemembers is Against the Law

New York State’s Human Rights Law prohibits employers, housing providers, non-religious educational institutions, and places of public accommodation from discriminating against persons because of their military status.

The Law protects you if you participate in the military service of the United States, or the military service of another state, or are a veteran of such a service.

The New York State Division of Human Rights (DHR) enforces this law. DHR also helps to ensure that injured service members return to civilian life by strictly enforcing New York’s broad prohibition against discrimination based upon disability.
