Starting and Appealing Claims
New York State Division of Veterans’ Affairs (NYS DVA) professional Veterans Benefits Advisors are knowledgeable in U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) rules and regulations and will guide and advocate through the process from beginning to end.
VA provides a wide range of benefits including, Disability, Education and Training, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment, Home Loan Guaranty, Dependent and Survivor Benefits, Medical Treatment, Life Insurance and Burial Benefits.
Successful claims begin with proper claims development. When meeting a NYS DVA Veterans Benefits Advisor, have available DD214’s, medical records and if applicable marriage certificates, divorce decrees, birth certificates, and death certificates. NYS DVA Veterans Benefits Advisors can also assist in obtaining some of these documents.
Veterans and family members who need to file or appeal a claim with VA are encouraged to contact a NYS DVA Veterans Benefits Advisor for assistance.
