After being commissioned as an officer in the National Guard, First Lieutenant Theinert volunteered to go on active duty before joining his New York Army National Guard Unit. He was killed when an improvised explosive device was detonated near his dismounted patrol.

The four men were all members of the 4th Battalion, 25th Field Artillery, which is part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division.

Wilson was from Miller, Missouri; Ogden was from Corpus Christi, Texas; and Hall was from Huntsville, Alabama.

Geary, who died on Friday, March 20, 2009, in Farah Province, Afghanistan, and Fort Drum-based Private First Class (PFC) Adam J. Hardt, who died on Sunday, March 22, 2009, in Wardak Province, Afghanistan.
Lance Corporal Geary, a member of the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, died while supporting combat operations.
PFC Hardt, a member of the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division based at Fort Drum, New York, died in a non-combat incident.
“On behalf of the residents of New York, I wish to express our condolences to the family, friends and fellow service members of Lance Corporal Daniel Geary and Private First Class Adam Hardt,” said Governor Paterson. “Both men served our country with respect, dignity and honor. PFC Devoe, a member of the 40th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Combat Brigade of the 25th Infantry Division based at Fort Richardson, Alaska, died when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device.
“It is with deep regret that we acknowledge the death of Private First Class Patrick Devoe. On behalf of all New Yorkers, I wish to extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends and fellow soldiers,” said Governor Paterson. “PFC Devoe’s service and sacrifice to the United States of America will be honored and valued forever.”

Corporal Mayne was a member of the 5th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team. The unit is part of the 25th Infantry Division based at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
Corporal Mayne and two other soldiers died when they came under small arms fire from insurgents while on patrol.
“All New Yorkers are saddened by the death of this young soldier, and we grieve along with his friends, family, and fellow soldiers,” said Governor Paterson. “We are forever indebted to Corporal Michael Mayne for the sacrifice he has made on behalf of all citizens of the United States. His service will be honored and never forgotten.”

Sergeant 1st Class Munden, a member of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, died when struck by enemy fire.
“On behalf of all residents of the State of New York, I would like to express our sincere condolences to the family, friends and fellow soldiers of Sergeant 1st Class Raymond J. Munden. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this time of mourning,” said Governor Paterson. “The United States of America is forever indebted to the soldiers and service members who sacrifice their lives for their country. Chief Warrant Officer 2 Matthew G. Kelley, a native of Cameron, Missouri and resident of Carthage, New York.
Chief Warrant Officer 3 Philip E. Windorski, a native of Bovey, Minnesota and resident of Watertown, New York.
Chief Warrant Officer 2 Benjamin H. Todd, a native and resident of Colville, Washington.
Chief Warrant Officer 2 Joshua M. Tillery, a native of Beaverton, Oregon and resident of Fort Drum.
All four soldiers were members of the 6th Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment of the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, which is based at Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield at Fort Drum, New York, and is part of the 10th Mountain Division.
“On behalf of the citizens of New York, I wish to extend our sympathy to the friends, family and comrades-in-arms of these four 10th Mountain Division soldiers,” said Governor Paterson. “We will never forget the sacrifice that these soldiers and their families made on behalf of the United States of America.”

Major Pryor, a member of the 1st Medical Detachment, Forward Surgical Team, based in Fort Totten, New York, died from wounds suffered while in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I wish to extend our condolences to the family, friends and fellow soldiers of Major Pryor,” said Governor Paterson. “Major Pryor committed himself to a life of service, healing Americans here in the hospital and then volunteering that skill on the battlefield for America’s soldiers. Sergeant Taylor, assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 27th Brigade Combat Team based in Syracuse, New York, died while conducting combat operations against enemy forces when his armored humvee was struck by an improvised explosive device.

Specialist Von Zerneck, a member of B Troop, 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry, died in a vehicular accident while supporting combat operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Lieutenant Naqvi, a member of the United States Army’s 1st Battalion, 11th Infantry, Fort Benning, Georgia, died when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device.
“On behalf of the citizens of New York, I wish to extend our condolences to the family of Lieutenant Naqvi, and to his fellow soldiers from the Army’s 1st Battalion serving at home and overseas,” said Governor Paterson. “Lieutenant Naqvi’s service to our nation will never be forgotten.”

Private 1st Class May, assigned to the Division Special Troops Battalion, 10th Mountain Division, died as a result of a non-combat related incident. The incident is under investigation by local Army officials.

Feliz Nieve, who died on August 28 in Mosul, Iraq.
Specialist Gonzalez, a member of the United States Army Reserve’s 340th Military Police Company, headquartered at Fort Totten, Queens died when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. Specialist Gonzalez was a resident of Spotswood, New Jersey.
Specialist Nieve, a member of the 3rd Squadron, Third Armored Cavalry Regiment based at Fort Hood, Texas died as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle incident.
“On behalf of the people of New York, I wish to extend our condolences to the family, friends and fellow soldiers of Specialist Gonzalez and Specialist Nieve,” said Governor Paterson. “Their brave service and heroic sacrifice to our nation will never be forgotten.”

Sergeant Ulloa was a member of the 515th Transportation Company, 28th Transportation Battalion, based in Mannheim, Germany.
“It is with deep regret that we acknowledge and mourn the death of Sergeant Ulloa,” said Governor Paterson. “On behalf of all New Yorkers I want to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fellow soldiers of Sergeant Ulloa. His sacrifice to our country will never be forgotten.”
Sergeant Ulloa died as a result of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in the Sadr City district of Baghdad on August 8, 2008.

Governor David A. Paterson has directed that flags on state government buildings across New York be flown at half-staff on Monday, August 11, in honor of Elmont, Nassau County resident Specialist Andre Darnell Mitchell, who died in a vehicle accident in Mosul, Iraq on July 31, 2008.
Specialist Mitchell was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, based at Fort Hood, Texas. The accident is still under investigation, according to the United States Army.
Specialist Mitchell, 25, is survived by his mother, who resides in Elmont, and his father, a resident of Margate, Florida.
“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I want to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and fellow soldiers of Specialist Andre Darnell Mitchell, who died with honor in service to our country,” said Governor Paterson. “His selfless acts of bravery, courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Governor David A. Paterson has directed that flags on State government buildings throughout New York be flown at half-staff on July 18, 2008 in honor of two Fort Drum soldiers who were identified as killed in action on July 10.
Staff Sgt. Alex Jimenez, 25, of Lawrence, Mass., and Specialist Byron Fouty, 19, of Waterford, Mich., had been listed as “missing-captured” after their patrol was ambushed by insurgents south of Baghdad on May 12, 2007. The two men were members of the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, of the 10th Mountain Division, which is based at Fort Drum, Jefferson County.
Their remains were recovered on July 9 and positively identified on July 10, according to the Department of Defense. Five other members of the 10th Mountain Division were killed in the same action.
“All New Yorkers are saddened to learn of the deaths of Staff Sgt. Jimenez, and Specialist Fouty. However we hope their families can find solace in knowing the ultimate fate of these two brave Soldiers, and in knowing that their comrades-in-arms never stopped looking for them,” said Governor Paterson. “Their sacrifice, and the sacrifice of their families, will not be forgotten.”

1st Lt. Daniel Farkas, 42, of Washington Park, Brooklyn, died of injuries suffered from a non-hostile incident at Camp Phoenix in Kabul, Afghanistan. The incident is under investigation.
1st Lt. Farkas was assigned to the headquarters of the 27th Brigade Combat Team, based in Syracuse. At home, he served as a Lieutenant in the New York City Police Department.
“It is with deep regret that we acknowledge and mourn the death of a member of the New York Army National Guard,” said Governor Paterson. “On behalf of all New Yorkers I want to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of 1st Lt. Farkas.”

Sergeant First Class Joseph McKay, 51, of Cambria Heights, Queens; and Specialist Mark Palmateer, 39, of Poughkeepsie, died when their convoy came under attack in Logar Province in Eastern Afghanistan on June 26, 2008. The two soldiers were assigned to B Troop, 2nd Squadron 101st Cavalry, based in Jamestown, Chautauqua County. The soldiers and another member of the task force were killed when their armored Humvee was attacked by an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.
Marine Corps Captain Philip Dykeman, 38, of Brockport, Monroe County, died while supporting combat operations in Iraq.s Anbar Province on June 26, 2008. Captain Dykeman was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, which is based at the Marine Corps Base in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. Two other marines were killed in the same incident.
"It is with deep regret that we acknowledge the death of these brave members of the New York Army National Guard and Marine Corps," said Governor Paterson. "On behalf of all New Yorkers, I want to express our sympathy to the families of Sergeant First Class McKay, Specialist Palmateer and Captain Dykeman. Their sacrifice will be honored and valued forever."

Sgt. Andrew Seabrooks, of South Ozone Park, Queens; Specialist Anthony Mangano, of Greenlawn, Suffolk County; and Specialist Nelson Rodriguez-Ramirez, Revere, Massachusetts, died when their unit came under attack outside Kandahar, Afghanistan.
“On behalf of the citizens of New York I want to express my deepest regret at the loss of these three members of the New York Army National Guard,” said Governor Paterson. “These brave soldiers fought to protect their State and Nation and it is with terrible sadness but also tremendous pride that we remember their sacrifice. Our hearts go out to their families and their fellow soldiers.”
All three soldiers were assigned to A Troop, Second Squadron 101st Cavalry, based in Geneva, Ontario County. The three soldiers were part of Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix, a multi-national force of more than 8,000 U.S. and NATO service personnel training the Afghan National Army and Police.
The soldiers and another member of the task force were killed in an ambush en route to a training location when their vehicle was attacked by an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.

Staff Sergeant Tyler E. Pickett, who resided in Antwerp, Jefferson County, was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum. He was killed when his unit was attacked by an improvised explosive device. His hometown is Saratoga, Wyoming.
“On behalf of the citizens of New York, I extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family of Staff Sgt. Tyler Pickett, his soldiers and to the entire Fort Drum community,” said Governor Paterson. “They should all know that the service and sacrifice of Staff Sgt. Pickett will never be forgotten.”

The soldiers were conducting search operations. All three were members of the 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum., N.Y.
